Journey through the exhibition to read rehabilitation stories from the artists revealing the powerful connection between culture, community and natural environment.

Ceremony Time

This is a ceremonial mask that came to mind in a dream
“Painting helps me heaps as it has made me realise that I am actually good at something and I could do art in the community and sell it at markets.”

Emu Track

In Victoria there is a place called “The Little Desert” and there is a place within there called the Emu Track, and in the emu mating season the male does a dance to the female emu to attract a mate. The colours in the background represent a desert sunset.

Reflection of our Ancestors

This painting is all about the things we learn in life, from our ancestors, culture, ceremony, dance and dreamtime and what it means to be an Aboriginal person. Through reflection on our ancestry we have and can learn so much.
By doing this artwork I have given our ancestors the greatest tribute, as without our culture we would be lost.

Free Spirited

This painting Is about ancestral spirits, the living spirits of kindred, tribal people who lived in times long past. The ancestral spirits of each would willingly descend from their skyward home to help and support each new generation of their totem people.

Stolen Generation

All the dots represent the stolen children and the white dots running up the middle shows white society separating us, and the black shows the deep hole with its emptiness and darkness left in our hearts, minds, and souls.

Silent Killer

This painting tells a story about cancer. The red dots show the cancer growing and the black dots represent the dying cells. There is a long journey of cancer treatment depicted with the spirits representing both departed loved ones and survivors.
